Operation Piranha

This operation was planned and executed by UN covert operations in order to regain control of the Belnar ECM device discovered on Mars. The ECM device was most likely discovered and concealed by the Federation's engineering brigades assigned to investigation of the Martian Belnar ruins. The Brotherhood of Free Mars identified and pledged to hand over the ECM to the UN as part of their effort to secure the Second Treaty of Mars, guaranteeing an alliance with the UN.

After the Brotherhood withdrew from Lockyer Crater, the ECM device reverted to the control of the Federation as both the Brotherhood and the UN had failed to retrieve the ECM device due to the Federation naval blockade of Mars.

The UN covert team loaded the ECM into a mineral transport container on October 25th, 2033, and included this container with a shipment of TN materials carried by five York II freighters in the UN Freighter Command task group. The operation was successful and the ECM was transported to Earth, arriving on October 26th[1].
