The Brotherhood of Free Mars was a radical organization that was at the center of the Mars Crisis. Their goal was the creation of a free Martian state, independent of the UN and Federation. Their leader, Shrike Soman, was an ex-Federation special forces operative who decided to defect.

History

The BFM was initially conceived by the Federation as a justification for them to increase their hold on Mars and marginalize the UN's presence there. However, their plan backfired when Soman decided to make the fake revolt a reality, and he used his connections and influence to achieve that goal. While the Federation attempted to frame the BFM for several bombings of UN assets, they were ultimately relatively friendly to the UN. However, when the Mars Crisis ended and the UN withdrew from Mars, the organization collapsed and Soman was assassinated by Anton Korbalev.

After the break-up of the Brotherhood, Administrator Lakya Badam remained as the organization's public leader with the intention of integrating Free Mars into the Federation[1]. The referendum was held November 1st, 2033.

Key Personnel

Shrike Soman was the leader of the BFM both politically and militarily. Despite portraying himself as a radical revolutionary during press conferences, in reality he was a savvy diplomat who was willing to barter with the UN for the sake of the BFM's freedom. The BFM also had a number of scientists that allied with the organization, some of whom were rescued by Operation Paperclip.

While the BFM had no void captains to begin with, they eventually gained the services of Raw_Beef, who piloted the BFM's only ship, the Mitrata. Aside from him, no other void captains were known to be associated with the BFM.

Military Assets

Due to the breakup of the BFM, they have no military assets. In their prime, they commanded a number of Federation ground units and engineer brigades that had defected. In the void, the only ship they had was the unarmed Mitrata, which was the only piece of the BFM that survived the Mars Crisis.
