Vishnu

The Vishnu class destroyer entered service in the Federation Navy on 21 July 2036. As one of the newest FEAN warships, little is known about it at present. It is also known by its UN Reporting name Irkutsk.

Naming Controversy

A minor scandal erupted when an official in the Bureau of Ships attempted to give the Vishnu class the reporting name Kharkov. Ukrainian representatives in the General Assembly objected to the use of the name, stating that using the Russian name for a Ukrainian city to name a foreign warship class was unacceptable. Additional concerns were raised within the UNIN over potential confusion with the destroyer UNS Kharkiv, which was already named after the city. BuShips quickly dropped the proposal, and chose the reporting name Irkutsk instead.

Given the demonstrated speed and known Federation advantage in engine propulsion technology, the Vishnu is most likely equipped with 4th generation ion engines.

The Vishnu's armament is currently unknown, but the federation is known to make extensive use of missiles and meson weapons, and possesses railgun technology.

Tactical Analysis

The Vishnu class is significantly larger and more technologically advanced than its closest UN counterpart, the Cape Town class destroyer. It should be considered more than a match for the Cape Town, as well as the aging Berlin cruisers and Samar/Surigao destroyer escorts. Gibraltar class monitors and Masada PDCs should prove effective in defending UN territory and installations from these ships.
