UNDOT was merged with UNRA in April 2035 to form UNRL

The United Nations Department of Transportation or UNDOT for short, is the department under UN tasked with overseeing UN and civilian shipping.

History

The UNDOT was formed in 2024 to oversee, what was thought of, as the new golden age of spaceflight. Initially it was only to oversee the civilian deployment and legisation, However with the leak of TNE technology to the Federation, the UNDOT became a vital part of the UN colonial ambitions. Originally lead by Councilor Triskelli however by September 2026, he was replaced by Councilor DagPenge due to declining health.

In 2034 UNDOT was merged with UNRA by unanimous vote of the UNEC to form UNRL, United Nations Department of Resources and Logistics.

Responsibilities

The UNDOT is responsible for moving men and materials between all UN controlled stellar bodies, as well as all contact with civilian shipping corporations. This is mainly coordinated from the UNDOT complex at Cape Canaveral, although with the size of McK a sizable part of the logisics are done at the McK facility near London.

Assets

The UNDOT has so far chosen not to build a lot of ships directly under UN command, preferring instead to fund private enterprise and let civilian companies do the heavy lifting. The UN does have several civilian ships under their command, which were built either early in the space race, or had a function which could not be kept on civilian hands.
