Tranquility is the UN colony on Luna, Earth's sole moon. Founded on the 22nd of December 2025[1], the first batch of colonists arrived on the 18th of April 2027[2]. Tranquility City is the first extraterrestrial human colony.

History & Statecraft

Tranquility's early population growth quickly and consistently outpaced infrastructure development on the moon. By July 7th, 2027, homesteaders were already forced to share increasingly cramped quarters. This was partially due to McKiernan Transport's practice of selling more tickets than there were colonist slots available at time, a practice theoretically comparable to yet infinitely less humane than selling more tickets than there are seats on a terrestrial flight[3]. The UN partially rectified this through civilian infrastructure and freight contracts.

On July 9th, 2027, the ruling council petitioned the UN for a UN civilian administrator. At this time, the population of Tranquility City numbered over 760,000[4]. On August 30th, 2027, Administrator Ms. A RICH WHITE MAN became the first Lunar governor[5].

September 25th saw further tensions in Tranquility when roving skirmishes erupted among settlers brawling over limited necessities of Lunar living. The shortage was exacerbated by McKiernan opting to delay further Tranquility deliveries in favor of the more lucrative Martian contracts[6]. This was the herald of a long season of unrest within the Tranquility colony. The poor logistical coordination stretched relations between the colony and the UN quite thin. Interestingly, morale was very high during this period, likely due to the hardships Lunar colonists endured together.

As a result of focusing on military technologies, the Federation's own colonizing efforts were eclipsed early on. This led to Federation Commissioner-General Ivano Tretyakov's December 6th announcement that FEAN was re-evaluating its supposed participation in the Outer Space Treaty.

Tensions resulted in graffiti and civil demonstrations by December 10th protesting the lack of coordination and attention paid to the Tranquility colony. The lax oversight on the UN's part is attributable to the UN's desire to rapidly colonize Mars and begin exploitation of the Belnar ruins.

By January 10th, 2027 Federation Ambassador Aloyoshenka Kulikov informed UN Ambassador CeeBees that the Federation was withdrawing from the Outer Space Treaty partially as a result of the UN's lunar claim. This instigated the First Saturn Crisis.

The Constitutional Convention of Tranquility ratified a parliamentary democracy government modeled after the British legislature in first quarter 2034, seven years after the colony's founding. Through Councilor Added Space, the Lunar Nation petitioned for UN membership as a full member[7]. On April 1st, new Lunar Administrator Coolguye arrived in Tranquility City and his first official act was to welcome the Lunar Nation as a full, voting member of the UNGA.
