The Giza class is a linelayer operated by the ETI known as The Mind. Prior to receiving its official designation, this ship class was known under the provisional designations "Burkina Faso" and "Spinnaker."

Osaka Effect

The Giza class has the ability to remotely influence ship crews and computer systems. To date it has projected audio/visual hallucinations, created false sensor contacts, implanted false memories, and altered ship inventory logs. The exact mechanism and limits of these abilities are currently unknown, though they appear to be unable to project them through unstabilized jump points. As no other Mind ship classes have been encountered, it is not currently known if these abilities are unique to this class or present in all Mind ships.

Preliminary experiments indicate shields may provide some level of protection from these abilities, but this has not yet been tested.

Tactical Analysis

The Giza is presumed to not carry any conventional weapons, but represents a significant threat. Due to its large size, it will take a significant amount of firepower to reliably and quickly destroy the ship. The Giza is believed to carry 2 armor belts, comparable to our own freighters and linelayers. A missile with warhead strength 9 would be capable of penetrating such armor, though no such missile currently exists in the UN's inventory.

Meson armed vessels would be ideal for destroying the Giza class, though concerns exist about sending unshielded ships close to Mind ships.
