PROJECT NIKE is the name for the research and shipbuilding effort to produce the first Ion generation warships.

There has been a cohesive decision ever since I (UNIN) started planning for the new fleet months ago. The UN will be standardizing on size 4 shipkillers. I'm fairly sure I've said that in thread before, and even if I haven't, I know I've told IRC multiple times.

Due to the Mind situation all combat ships will have at least a single shield generator.

UNSA/UNIN have planned to have the following techs in play for the Ion Fleet

   Composite Armor
   Small Crew Quarters
   Active Sensor 16
   EM Sensor 8
   Warhead 4
   Missile Agi 32
   Ion Engines/Missile Ion engines

In addition, UNIN would like to grab Flag Bridge, Magazine 80%, Fuel 0.8, Missile Reload 3, and FireControl Speed 2k and 3k, but I know there are a lot of demands on UNSA so I'm trying to be reasonable.

UNSA Update Oct-2014: Due to deals with the Federation it is expected we will additionally have, small fuel tanks, Beam Fire Control Range 16,000 km and Fire Control Speed Rating 2000 km/s available.

The Ion Fleet standards are:

At least 2 armor on all warships regardless of size or purpose. Minimum of 5 armor for cruisers. Range of anti-ship sensors and missile fire controls should be between 45m and 50m km. Range of anti-missile sensors and missile fire controls should be at least 1m km vs size 6 missiles. Speed should be as close to or higher than 5000kps whenever possible for warships, and at least 3000kps for support ships. Expect 40-45% of combat ship tonnage to be devoted to engine. The UN will be standardizing on size 4 shipkiller missiles, with optimal range matching that of sensor and fire control, or slightly shorter (for ECM) Anti-missile defense will initially be provided by AMM escorts, until suitable railgun fire controls can be researched. Then group defense will be a multi-zone system composed of AMMs and railguns. Anti-ship magazines should have at least 10 full reloads. More is better, we can't reload quickly from colliers. Anti-missile magazines should have as many full reloads as possible.

The UNIN Ion Generation currently is planning to have:

Combat

Heavy Missile Cruiser as main combat ship (EADS Shipyard) Probably over 9500T.
Destroyer for independent operations and combat support (Columbia or Volvo) Likely 3500-4000T.
AMM Escort for defense. (Volvo or Columbia) Likely 3000+T.
Railgun Escort for defense and Jump point combat. (Retooled on Volvo)

Support

Collier/Tanker to extend operations (Likely retooled on Oceania)
Sensor Ship for long range spotting and scouting, Delphi II retool will perform fine for now. (Whatever yard is free)
Jump Tender capable of jumping Destroyers and Escorts (likely retooled on Columbia)
   GravSurvey vessels (Oceania)

Mitsubishi Defense is growing to cruiser size and will wait to use its free tooling on a larger ship.
