Political Situation
Major Factions
The Federation of European and Asian Nations
Minor Factions
Coalición Latinoamericana de Colonización (yellow on the above map). This group has been pooling funding and resources for an eventual bid for an extrasolar colony world. The CLC is on very good terms with the UN, and some of its member nations have submitted applications of interest in rejoining the UN as observer nations. Over the time, it has become almost coterminous with Cornucopia, with most of the Latin American countries being major players in Cornucopian politics.
The Balkan League (green). This tentative alliance of nations in Central and Southern Europe is equally divided between the Federation and UN sphere's of influence. Relations between BL members are fragile, given the complicated history many of them share. Combined, they hope to submit a bid, though they admit that they are only in the preliminary phases of organization toward the effort. West Africa Association (pink). Little more than a piece of paper signed by the heads of government of the "member" states, this nascent organization is fraught with internecine conflicts and political jockeying for control of the Association. Still, the significant population of this group means that if they could rise above their various conflicts, they could become an important player in Africa. The WAA is heavily influenced by Federation policy streaming out of Northwestern Africa and the Middle East, though longstanding conflicts with the peoples of these areas keeps the WAA cautious.
Staunchly pro-Federation governments are found in North (orange) and East (brown) African organizations (The Sahara League and East Africa Association), though these are having the same issues as the WAA. The EAA is actually in the middle of a bitter inter-member conflict (as it has been, on and off, for the last century). Pro-Federation factions receive amounts of foreign aid from the Federation, and they are slowly crushing their opposition.
There are rumors of similar groups being mooted in Central and Southern Africa.
